The CU-Boulder South Asian Â鶹ÒùÔº Association is holding the Indian Classical Music Festival on the Boulder campus from Oct. 23 to Oct. 26 as part of South Asian Awareness Month.
Internationally renowned sarod player, Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta, will be accompanied by Pandit Nayan Ghosh on the tabla in a concert on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Math Auditorium, room 100.
Dasgupta, regarded as one of the top sarod players of current classical Indian musicians, has won several national and international awards and has been performing around the world for more than 40 years. Nayan Ghosh, accomplished at both the sitar and tabla, is the son of legendary tabla player, Pandit Nikhil Ghosh, and the nephew of the founder of the bamboo flute, Pandit Pannalal Ghosh.
Nayan Ghosh also will perform on Sunday, Oct. 24, playing the sitar, with tabla player Sri Mallar Ghosh, considered one of the most promising young Indian musicians today. That performance is at 4 p.m. in the Math Auditorium.
In addition to the concerts, a tabla workshop will be conducted by Nayan Ghosh in the Willard Hall International Lounge, room 152, on Oct. 25, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A sarod lecture and demonstration by Dasgupta will be in the Imig Music Building, room C199, on Oct. 26 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
All events are free and open to the public and are sponsored by the University of Colorado Student Union Cultural Events Board in conjunction with the offices of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Chancellor, the President's Fund for Support of Diversity and the College of Arts and Sciences.
