The University of Colorado at Boulder's Department of Housing will hold its annual "Global Jam: A Celebration of Diversity" on Sept. 23 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Farrand Field.
Global Jam is an annual diversity program, organized by the Housing Department, that showcases ethnic foods and music from people and places around the world. This year's menu consists of food from the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, the Mississippi Delta and various parts of Africa. Meals are planned and prepared by the department's dining services.
Food service will begin at 4:30 p.m. from large tents on Farrand Field. The menu includes Doro Wat (chicken stew), Ye Miser Wet (red lentil stew) and spicy Moroccan couscous from Africa; shrimp with mint and rum, Jamaican jerk pork, mango salsa and coconut rice from the Caribbean; herring in wine sauce, balabusky (sour cream rye rolls) and Hungarian goulash from Eastern Europe; and spicy red beans and rice, chicken jambalaya, and shrimp and vegetarian etouffee from the Mississippi Delta.
Entertainment will include Irish step dancers; the Japanese drumming group One World Taiko; blues music by the Big Cat Band; Le Bon Cajun Band; the African drumming group Oyoyo with Bob Hall; Southern Plains Indian dancers and singers; world accordionist Ron Tomocic; Aztec dancing by Grupo Huitzliopotchli; Mariachi de America de Jesus Diaz; and bagpipe music by Ben Holmes.
The cost is $6 for adults and children over the age of 13 and $3 for children ages 6 to 12. Children ages 5 and younger and residence hall students with valid IDs are served free.
In case of adverse weather, Global Jam will be held in the Balch Fieldhouse.
