The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at Boulder will present the annual Ralph L. Crosman Lecture on Monday, March 1, at 5:30 p.m. in Old Main Chapel.
James E. O'Shea, deputy managing editor for news at the Chicago Tribune, is the guest speaker.
The lecture is titled, "The Journalistic Boomerang: Reporters Face New Intimidation Tactics after the Food Lion Case."
O'Shea has been at the helm of the Tribune's news divisions since 1995 and has served as the associate managing editor for foreign and national news. He also covered the Pentagon and national budget policy and economics for several years for the Tribune's Washington, D.C., bureau.
O'Shea has won numerous journalism awards and is the author of two books.
The Crosman lecture series was created in 1953 through private support in tribute to Ralph L. Crosman, former director of the journalism school. Crosman was a nationally renowned faculty member and administrator at the university from 1921 until his death in 1948.
Admission is free and open to the public. A reception will be held in the Koenig Alumni Center following the lecture.
