Â鶹ÒùÔº in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder will honor five area businesses with Corporate Excellence Awards at a reception tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Glenn Miller Ballroom.
The annual awards recognize businesses that contribute to the community. The awards and recipients are as follows:
•The Technology and Innovation Award – QualMark Corp., Broomfield. The company provides accelerated testing systems that detect design defects in all types of products.
•The Entrepreneurial Spirit Award – Bloomin’ Flower Cards, Boulder. The committee recognized Bloomin’ Flower Cards for their creative product, socially responsible approach and their ability to capitalize on minimal resources.
The company makes greeting cards with flower seeds embedded in the paper. Local artists create designs and the company outsources all assembly to families who pick up kits and assemble cards at home in their spare time. They also employ mentally disadvantaged workers.
•The CU Business Wall of Support Award – The Shane Co., Denver. CU alum and Business College Advisory Council member Tom Shane contributed funds for an alumni board room in the College this year. He also has shared his marketing expertise in several marketing courses over the last five years. Shane owns 13 jewelry stores throughout the United States.
•The Environmental Awareness Award -– McStain Enterprises, Inc., Boulder. This company finds “green” solutions that minimize the impact of construction on the environment. Greenlee Park, a McStain development, uses cellulose insulation and solvent-free, non-toxic adhesives.
•The Community Service Award – Boulder Planet, Boulder. This independent newspaper focuses on events, people and the community. The committee complimented the Planet for its involvement with community events, such as the Boulder Creek Festival. They also praised a Planet program that teaches local Girl Scouts how to be writers and reporters.
Rick Sterling, co-founder and president of Sterling-Rice advertising and marketing company, will be the keynote speaker at tonightÂ’s event.
