To offer more opportunities for student belonging, inclusion and engagement, Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) has been working with the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) to bring historically Black fraternities and sororities to CU Boulder.

Expanding our Greek community

Since their founding, fraternities and sororities have provided college students with a values-based experience. This focuses on developing students as leaders, promoting academic success, providing brotherhood and sisterhood and connecting them with the greater community through service. Existing on hundreds of campuses across the country and internationally, Greek organizations can provide a one-of-a-kind collegiate experience.

NPHC is composed of nine historically Black fraternities and sororities that were originally founded at historically Black colleges and universities. NPHC chapters later expanded to other institutions, widening the opportunities for Black students to join fraternities and sororities at all types of institutions.听

Bringing NPHC fraternities and sororities to CU Boulder allows for more students to find their community and a sense of belonging on campus. These organizations have been a part of our campus community in the past, and efforts are underway to bring them back to Boulder permanently.听

Recruitment this year

This year, four NPHC chapters have been granted provisional status at CU Boulder:

• Alpha Iota Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.听
• Chi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.听
• Omicron Zeta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.听
• Zeta Pi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.听

Provisional status allows these organizations to actively recruit CU Boulder students and use campus facilities and resources. FSL is working to establish provisional status with the remaining NPHC organizations.

In April 2022, FSL hosted an NPHC Meet and Greet event for students to learn more about these chapters and meet with representatives. So far, two of the NPHC chapters with provisional status have welcomed CU Boulder students into their organizations.
