The Program in Jewish Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder mourns the horrific killing of ten people at a King Sooper’s in our own community of Boulder on Monday, March 22, 2021. The victims were senselessly killed as they were going about their daily lives in a supermarket that many of us know so well. We mourn these murders both as incomprehensible tragedies for their victims and families, and as a deeply traumatic event that has shaken our community to its core. , and we call on communities, civic leaders, and politicians to take action to address this plague of violence. We also echo the university’s call to support Arab, Muslim, and South Asian communities, who may be further targeted or marginalized in the wake of early media reports regarding the suspect’s background. As a Boulder program, we are committed to ensuring that all members of our community have the resources they need in the wake of Monday’s shooting, and we stand ready to support students, staff, faculty, and the broader public in the wake of this tragedy.
