Professor Sherri Cook New publication in the Environmental Science & Technology Journal

EVEN Professor Sherri Cook co-authored a newly published research article in the Environmental Science & Technology Journal. The article was published October 25th and focuses on the financial implications of microalgae biofuels. Typically, the models that industry is currently using assume a static basis for microalgae biomass composition and cost. This method results in constrained cultivation and downstream conversion process design and limited in-depth understanding of their interdependencies. Professor Cook and her team instead used a dynamic biological cultivation model which was integrated with thermo-chemical/biological unit process models. After running many tests and simulations Professor Cook and her team found that the results of their work demonstrate a clear need to leverage integrated modeling platforms to advance microalgae biofuel systems as a whole.
