EVEN Prof. Rosario-Ortiz: How wildfires contaminate drinking water sources

Fernando Rosario-Ortiz, who is an associate professor here at CU EVEN, found in his newest research a multitude of challenges posed by wildfires, including short and long term effects on the availability and quality of drinking water sources used by major metropolitan areas such as Denver, Colorado. The extra particles introduced to the water sources can lead to algal blooms and increased turbidity resulting in a much more expensive, timely, and intensive water filtration process. Click on the link below to read more about how the increasing number and size of wildfires due to climate change are effecting water sources as well as some proposed solutions to this issue.
