Prof. Lupita Montoya New Publication

EVEN Professor Lupita Montoya's study on indoor air quality in the Navajo Nation has just been published on Taylor & Francis Online.

Household air pollution is the leading environmental health risk factor worldwide and is responsible for 2.8 million premature deaths each year. Most homes in the Navajo Nation use wood as their primary heating fuel, often in combination with locally mined coal. Previous studies have observed health effects linked to this solid-fuel use in several Navajo communities; however, emission factors of these fuels had yet to be reported using a relevant stove type. In this study, four solid fuels commonly used for residential heating in the Navajo Nations were tested using a representative Navajo homestove.

The article's full title is: Emission factors of fine particulate matter, organic and elemental carbon, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide for four solid fuels commonly used in residential heating by the Navajo Nation.
