Class of 2020: Sam Dorfman
Environmental product design major and Colorado native Sam Dorfman plans to buy and sell real estate, renovate properties and work with various types of housing projects after graduation.
“Sam has a never-ending passion for life! During his 3.5 years at CU Boulder he has gotten involved in making music tracks, playing guitar with groups of friends, building amplifiers, camping, dirt biking, learning about real estate, learning to weld and restoring a vintage 1966 Mustang during the entire school year. He has many interests, he is kind and loyal and always willing to help people. He amazes me every single day.†–Julie Dorfman
I would like to thank my classmates for making my time at ENVD absolutely wonderful. And I would like to say that nearly all of my peers are excellent designers and they should absolutely not be afraid to follow their passions and apply what we have learned in ENVD.
What is one of the greatest experiences or lessons from your time at CU Boulder that you'll carry with you into the next chapter of your life?
From my time at CU Boulder was quickly being accepted into the ENVD community after transferring from the psych department, and meeting tons of awesome people in nearly all of my classes. I will carry this with me into the next chapter of my life in order to not be afraid to try new things and meet new people.
What will you miss the most?
I will definitely miss the students I had classes with as well as the awesome ENVD staff. ENVD has an amazing sense of community that made my time studying fun and productive. I will miss being surrounded by a great work environment.
Favorite memory?
It was doing the manual labor/digging for the Praxis Bee Studio. It was a ton of fun because everyone had to work hard and help each other accomplish a massive goal. It was the epitome of team bonding, and the entire project was extremely intriguing.
What does graduating from college represent for you?
Graduating college represents my next step in narrowing down my career path. The next job I get will be my first job out of school, and my first full time paid position. Graduating represents the freedom I now have to take what I've learned in ENVD and apply it to my many interests within the design world outside of school.
What are your plans beyond graduation?
My plans beyond graduation are to begin buying/selling real estate, renovate properties, work with different types of housing projects, and begin working to get invested in rental properties. Beyond this, I am interested in continuing my work within automotive restoration and further developing my skills, as well as continuing my work within audio/amplifier design. I am not totally sure where my career will end up, but what I have learned in ENVD can be applied to nearly every interest I have outside of school.
