Major renovations underway for undergraduate teaching labs
The department is undertaking a major effort to upgrade our undergraduate teaching labs to make them more modern and flexible. The labs are the most highly utilized spaces by all of our undergrads and are key to their academic and professional success.
This strategic investment – supported by the college, students and industry – will create the spaces we need to attract, retain and inspire the best students, and to prepare them for the dynamic workforce of the future.Ìý
Renovation of the undergrad electronics/circuits labs has already begun. A wall was removed to expand the usableÌýspace, and movable lab benches were added so the lab can be reconfigured for recitals, group projects and tutorials.ÌýÌý Ìý
The electronics lab renovation will serve as a model for several upcoming remodels, including the senior capstone, microwave/RF and power electronics labs, as well as the Student Resource Center. Together, these spaces will serve an undergraduate population of nearly 500 starting in fall 2018, but most have remained unchanged for the past 10 years.
To reach our goal, we’re working to raise $2.8 million from industry and friends of the department. The project has already been designated as a strategic priority for the college, and has earned the support of the Engineering Excellence Fund, which is administered by CU Engineering students.
A gift to the electrical, computer and energy engineering Teaching Facilities Renovation Fund is an investment in the future engineering workforce. It will also allow the department to expand distance learning and professional advancement opportunities, creating even more value for alumni.
