In November Monica Emerich (PhDComm’06) published her book The Gospel of Sustainability: Media, Market and LOHAS, based on her dissertation. She lives in Lafayette, Colo.

The ASHRAE society nominated Westminster, Colo., resident Rebecca Losier Reel (MechEngr’06) as one of its “New Faces of Engineering.” She received the recognition for her engineering contributions and the resulting impact on public welfare. She has participated in more than 10 LEED-registered projects, including serving as energy modeler for a housing complex for soldiers healing from injuries.

Associate professor of geography Daniel Trudeau (PhDGeog’06) received tenure from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. His research experience represents his diverse set of interests in urban geography, including urban political economy, cultural landscapes and social justice.

In January CU alums Scott WashburnĚý(ąóľ±˛Ô’06),ĚýBob Wilson (Fin’06) and John Wilson (Jour’06) launched their startup winery in Chicago. Winestyr is a new wine platform that puts consumers directly in touch with wineries via the internet to facilitate sales. The model is a greener channel to purchase wine and has received positive responses from both wineries and consumers.

Chairlift band member Patrick Wimberly (Mus’07) has performed hundreds of times playing the drums, keyboards, base and vibes. The band’s song “Bruises” was licensed by Apple for an iPod commercial that aired worldwide.

Last summer Lauren Gunderson (Math’07) and Ricardo Jimenez Martinez (MPhys’08, MEngr’10) married. Lauren is an executive assistant at the dean’s office of the CU law school, and Ricardo is working toward a doctorate in physics at CU.

On June 30 Jessica Amend (Psych’08) and Grant McGilvray (Jour’08) will marry. Jessica continued her education at the University of Denver with a degree in international disaster psychology and Grant works as a broadcast engineer at ROOT Sports in Denver.

On Sept. 15 Carly Stenseth (Soc’08) and Erik Rothschild (Econ, Fin’08) will marry. Carly is a teacher at Golden Gate Guppies in San Francisco and Erik is a trading associate at hedge fund Peak6 Advisors.

Director of Nyaya Health Mark Arnoldy (Psych’10) works in western Nepal to deliver health care through an innovative model for Nepal’s poorest and underserved. Nyaya Health will be hosting its first event in Boulder in August.

Certified trainer Lauren Pierpoint (IntPhys, Math’09, MS’11) joined Boulder’s Fitness for Living as a boot camp trainer. She has taught such classes as cycling, sport conditioning and body sculpting. She lives in Broomfield, Colo.

Overcoming hurdles is second nature for Sarah Deacon (MCDBio’11). She was the first to graduate in her family with a college degree, a feat especially monumental because she dropped out of high school and spent some time homeless. Her next goal is to go to medical school. “Now I am officially qualified to do what I know I am capable of,” she told the Colorado Daily.

After serving on CU’s Program Council Justin Greenstein (Jour’11) and student Eric Kean had the idea to start their own concert promotion company called Amplitude Entertainment. They assist student groups and campus organizations across the country in hosting cheap shows. Their services are free of charge to campus groups, and the duo takes a percentage of the concert’s ticket sales or advertising. Justin told the Colorado Daily that they got the business idea after they were unable to throw a huge spring concert at CU due to lack of funds.

After working with Interactive Theater, Anthony Hull (PolSci’11) is making a documentary on a school in Harlem with creative partner Gregory Callan (PolSci’12). Anthony believes that education is one of the most important topics in our country, and in underrepresented communities, great education needs to be available. Earlier this spring he served as a judge in the CU Idol, a campus singing contest sponsored by The Herd.

A two-week trip to Nicaragua inspired Michael Pearl (Mktg’11) to start an organic, fair-trade coffee buying business to help grow the industry and boost the local economy. “Basically, I wanted to cut out the middle man,” he told the Boulder Camera. He lives in Boulder.
