Dual degree programs offer global exposure for PhD students

The College of Engineering and Applied Science at CU-Boulder has partnered with in Santiago, Chile, to offer students in all majors the opportunity to earn an international dual PhD degree.

The international dual PhD degree programs are structured so that students can pursue coursework at CU-Boulder and an international university to earn two degrees simultaneously. 鶹Ժ must be admitted to both degree programs and fulfill all requirements for each of the degrees. The college also offers a PhD in materials science in conjunction with the University of Leoben in Austria.

CU-Boulder student Harrison Mesa is currently going through an international dual PhD degree program. Mesa is studying engineering sciences at Catholic University in Santiago, and engineering and construction management at CU.

“I think that the dual degree program is an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and research experiences between the universities,” Mesa said. “It allows students to complement their skills and [learn] about a new culture.”

Most of the degrees offered are graduate degrees due to the flexibility of required coursework. However, undergraduate dual degrees are being developed. For more information on dual degree opportunities, please visit contact Professor Keith Molenaar at keith.molenaar@colorado.edu.
