China Global Seminar Information Session October 17 at 4:30 p.m.
Looking for something to do during your Maymester this Summer? Why not spend it in China exploring the cultural identity of four of China's most famous and historic cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, and Hangzhou! Interact with Chinese peers both in and outside the classroom and gain firsthand knowledge on the ways modernity has affected urban China! Earn 3 upper-division credits for ASIA 3900, approved for the Asian Studies major requirement and Engineering Humanities/Social Sciences credits. The program is open to all majors.
The program will start in Beijing and then travel to Xi'an and Shanghai. During your stay in Shanghai, you will travel overnight to Hangzhou, and return to Shanghai for the conclusion of your program. Excursions will include the following sites:
- Beijing: the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Lama Temple, Panjiayuan Market
- Xi'an: The Terra Cotta Warriors, the City Wall, the Famen Temple, the Qianling Tomg, and the tomb of Empress Wu
- Shanghai: the Jewish Quarter, Yiyuan and old Shanghai, the Bund and Nanjing Road, the city of Suzhou (daytrip from Shanghai)
- Hangzhou: West Lake, the Linying Temple
This is a competitive program due to the generous Tang Fund scholarship through the Center for Asian Studies available to all admitted participants.
