Dear members of the CEAS community:
I am pleased to announce that I’ve appointed Keith Molenaar to serve as dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science, effective July 1. Keith has been acting dean since the departure of former dean Bobby Braun in January 2020.
During the search process, I was impressed by Keith’s vision for CEAS, which is grounded first in values such as diversity, equity and inclusion, and which is focused on student success; second, by his pathway for moving ahead, which is built upon a highly energetic and collaborative leadership style; and third, by his ideas for how the college could fit into the campus’s larger structures and directions. All of these came together in a way that gave me confidence that he is the right leader for CEAS at the right moment for the university.
Keith Molenaar is the K. Stanton Lewis Professor of Construction Engineering and Management in CEAS. He received his doctoral and master’s degrees in civil engineering from CU Boulder, and his bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering also from CU Boulder. After a brief and successful appointment as an assistant professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, he returned to CU Boulder in 1999 as assistant professor of civil, environmental and architectural engineering. In the 23 years since he returned to CU Boulder, the impacts of his teaching and leadership have been far reaching and helped advance the college in many ways.
At this time, I’d like to thank Keith for his service as acting dean for the past two years. I’d also like to thank the search advisory committee for their diligent work, and Scott Adler, dean of the Graduate School, for chairing the search committee.
Please join me in congratulating Keith and welcoming him to his position as dean.Â
Sincerely,
Russ
